Okay, so...

I have a question for people who read this blog. Which is like all of six, considering I post like once every month, if that. But I do have a question and I would like it answered.

I am probably one of the most strong willed people that I know. I know exactly who I am, what my beliefs are, and what I want to do with my life. I feel like certain people in my life look down on me because of this.

I feel like girls nowadays have no definition outside of a man. It really, really bothers me. I love Michael, my boyfriend of four and a half years more than anything. He really is an important part of my life. That being said, he's not my whole life. I have friends, I have school, I have fanfiction (this is a legit hobby of mine), I have my books, I have my dogs, I have things outside of him that give me fulfillment.

I'm Haley. I'll always be Haley. I feel like it's important to not lose yourself in a relationship, to bury yourself in another person. It doesn't seem fair to me, or to him. I feel like it's important to know and respect yourself in a relationship.

I also feel like I'm in the minority for girls my age around where I am.

I live in a teeny tiny town in South Carolina.

I feel like there's more to life than being barefoot and pregnant.

But I feel like I'm in the minority.

Am I wrong?

Truths for Thursday

#1- I'm out of books. I've read my entire summer reading list. I've even read some of them twice! I'd like some new books if anyone knows of any. I really prefer fantasy/mythology/dystopian stuff.

#2- Fast food has begun to make me sick. I can't even eat an order of fries without feeling like I'm going to harf. It kind of makes me sad because it's been a staple in my diet for so long.

#3- I can't wait to start the coupon swap. I'm obsessed with finding deals. I do plan on stockpiling/donating. Anyone who wants to give me coupons, it'll be appreciated.

#4- I enjoy getting mail that isn't bills.

#5- I'm ready, more than ready to be done with school. I'm just ready to be out there TEACHING instead of learning about how to be a teacher. I guess it'll all pay off in the end.

#6- Weddings are EXPENSIVE.

On Marriage

Well, firstly, seeing as I've never been married, this is going to really, really make some people mad. But lets get something straight- I DO NOT CARE. I've sat on this belief long enough and I feel like it's time to get it out there. Especially with what happened in North Carolina yesterday.

I'm in  a relationship, a long term one. Michael and I have been together for the better part of five years, and no, we aren't married. We just aren't ready. It doesn't have anything to do with how much I love him, because I love him dearly, and I couldn't ever imagine my life without him. I don't need a big ceremony or a piece of paper to tell me how much I love someone. Because when it boils right down to it, it's nothing more than a piece of paper. I'm really, really tired of self-righteous people who think that they can judge my relationship and our actions, just because we aren't married. We've been together four and a half years. Get off your high horse.

People judge my relationship a lot based on it's length without marriage; I've had a lot of people say that we aren't committed to each other. Five years without a single break up proves commitment. And when it boils down to it, that's what love is, what marriage is. Committing your life to another human being no matter what happens.

I'm beginning to think the entire institution of marriage is nothing but a joke. A big, fat joke. I think it'st a joke how two people who don't even know each other- and I don't give a crap what anyone says- you can't truly know somebody in six months; can run off and get a marriage liscence. This is why a whopping 56% of first marriages end in divorce. The percentages rise for second and third marriages. Kim Kardashian can be married for 57 days and no one thinks there's something wrong with that? What a joke.

Same-sex couples who have been together for years, or decades can't get married? Haven't they proved their commitment to each other? Isn't that, when it boils down to it, what marriage is? Making a commitment to another human being? To promise your life to another human being no matter what happens? But no, we regulate commitment on whether or not the people have different genitalia. I'll say it again. What a joke.

What does this say about our society? The fact that we endorse heterosexual marriages that will indefinitely end in divorce? But not homosexual couples that truly have proved their commitment?

This is truly and utterly pathetic and disgusting.

It's nothing but a piece of paper. A piece of paper that everyone should get to have.

Thursday Things

1. I am a book nerd, obviously. My three favorite series are Harry Potter (duh), The Hunger Games, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the spin off of PJ, The Heroes of Olympus. THG movie is coming out on March 23, 2012. Squeeeee! I'm so excited. JLaw and Josh Hutcherson seem perfect for the roles of Peeta and Katniss, (ahem, Peeniss). I do have a slight problem with my movie, though. Taylor Swift is going to be on the soundtrack. There are no words for how angry this makes me. THIS ISN'T A TAYLOR SWIFT TYPE OF MOVIE!!! I have listened to the song, and I hate, loathe, and abominate it with every fiber of my being. If they play that song during the cave scene, so help me Peter, I will storm out of the theater in fury.

2. Arkansas should have went to the Orange Bowl, this much is obvious. But since the BCS is stupid and will only let 2 teams from the same conference play in their stupid BCS bowls, and since Alabama & LSU are playing for the National Championship (Geaux Tigers!!),  that takes care of the two SEC teams playing in the BCS. So Clemsux went to the Orange Bowl and played the WVU Mountaineers. And they got spanked. 70-33. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!! Clemsux can't play with the big boys. The fact that they got so royally messed up just proves my point that the ACC is one of the crappier conferences in college football.

3. I love my Ralph Lauren Shirts I got for Christmas. They are so comfortable.

4. I can't decide whether I should post my fanfiction that I wrote on my blog.

5. I have started a fiction story all of my own creation. I am so proud.
